Community Partners

Pioneer Craft House is host to a number of groups who share with each other their special gifts, endeavors, and cultures, in ways that benefit them, us, and our neighborhood. We continue to reach out to the many diverse communities that make up the colorful spectrum that is Sale Lake City.

CLAY ARTS, UTAH is dedicated to education and advancement of the clay arts. Members range from professional potters to students and supporters of the arts, brought together by the desire to see the clay arts remain strong in our communities. Clay Arts holds workshops at Craft House, using the pottery studio for demonstrations and gatherings in the Great Hall.

KAREN WOMEN’S PROJECT In 2009, PCH installed equipment that enables Karen refugee women to weave on backstrap looms. The woven products provide them ability to earn an income, promotes social networking, and keeps their weaving traditions alive with a new generation of youth.

NAMI (National Alliance On Mental Illness), dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness, holds meetings and other events at PCH. NAMI holds their annual holiday art show at PCH.

PATHWAYS provides refugees opportunities to succeed through part-time entrepreneurial activities. At PCH, women and men learn needlework skills such as knitting and sewing from our instructors, who also provide opportunities for them to market their products.

WASATCH WOOLPACK HANDSPINNERS GUILD promotes awareness and understanding of the art of handspinning and related activities, and gives spinners the opportunity to share, learn, educate, study, compete, and cooperate for their mutual benefit.

WORLD ORGANIZATION OF CHINA PAINTERS, Salt Lake chapter, holds “Paint-Ins” and other activities at PCH.

NUTTAL-BERNINA The Suarez family, owners of Nuttal Fabric Stores, sponsored the National Quilt Day celebration on March 6, 2010, and the John Deer embroidery workshop on March 20-21, 2010. They are working with Pam Hanrahan and Virginia Lee to bring other such events to our campus in the future. They have donated a Brother sewing machine, a Grace quilting table, and a quilting frame. These donations have been particularly helpful to the Pathways Refugee Program.
